PVQA members have busy hands and big hearts! Three groups within PVQA provide cozy quilts to children and adults in need in our community. They make quilts from donated fabrics. Drop by for an hour or join them regularly -it’s rewarding and serves those most in need. Donations of clean cotton fabrics, battings, and backing-size pieces are always appreciated. Stop by, meet new friends, get involved!
Allstar Quilters meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Felton Fire Hall, 131 Kirby Street, Felton. Contact Brenda Cornell or Pat Huntsinger for more information. To date, they have donated over 1500 quilts to kids in need in our community through such organizations as CASA, Royal Kids Camp, Dominican Hospital, Pregnancy Resource Center, Salvation Army and Sienna House.
Join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at the Agricultural History Project building at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds in Watsonville (upstairs – enter thru the Museum). Contact Cathie Colson for more information. These quilts go to such worthy causes as CASA, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Halcyon House, Royal Kids’ Camp, and disabled American Veterans. Stop by and pick up a quilt kit to sew at home if you can’t spare a Wednesday.
Quilters for Hospice is an outreach group dedicated to the support of Hospice of Santa Cruz County, a non-profit agency providing compassionate end-of-life care and grief support services in our community. Everyone is invited to join in making quilts at group meetings or on their own. Meetings are the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Contact Kristie Shulman or Jaimie Chism for details.
Sew Little Timers
Sew Little Timers Members, PVQA members, and their moms make quilts for Foster children being adopted in Santa Cruz County, ranging in size from lap to full.
We request attractive, well-made quilts, appropriate for boys or girls. If you wish to donate a quilt, email Karen Gonzalez for more information. Please only use good quality fabrics, good workmanship and a pleasing design.
Veteran’s Quilt Project
Although this isn’t an official group, many guild members are involved in making lap quilts for disabled and recovering vets. The quilts are collected and taken to VA hospitals in Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Minimum size is 36″x48″, lightly quilted or tied and soft enough to drape. A patriotic theme is nice but by no means necessary. We request attractive, well-made quilts, appropriate for either gender. If you wish to donate a quilt, email Sandy Helin for more information. Please respect and honor the men and women who are recipients of your quilts with good fabric, good workmanship and a pleasing design.
